This house in the center of Porto preserves its original street-facing façade while completely reimagining its interior. A solid concrete structure runs longitudinally through the volume, supporting a system of perpendicular wooden beams. On the ground floor, a concrete fireplace composed of boldly shifted volumes introduces a deliberate sense of imbalance, while acting as a central and organizing element for the entire level.
On the garden side, a new metal façade incorporates a lightweight steel framework and a series of balconies. The dialogue between these elements is intensified by the metal cables required to stabilize the balcony structures. Slender, rounded metal columns rise through the house, gradually decreasing in number on the upper floors and contributing to an overall expression of delicate balance.
